Also starting November 11th and or Chapter 11 in regular U.S. History classes (9/10 and 11th periods) reading notes will be required. The one thing that everyone that failed this quarter had in common is that they took little to no reading notes. Though every quiz in the course is open note. So, to help rectify this and thus improve grades, reading notes for the quarter will be equivalent to a test grade (100 pts). Everyone  will start with a 100/100 and from time to time though out the quarter I will do note checks. If students have what I require for notes that grade will not change. If they have no notes when the check occurs their grade will decrease by 10 points, if they have only partial notes their grade will  decrease by 5 points. So, parents please understand the 100/100 that your child will have next week for note checks many decrease as the quarter goes on.

Every student was issued a calendar at the beginning of the year and it is also posted here at mrgallagher.com on the U.S. History page. Students know every reading assignment that they have until the end of the semester.

2008-2009 Welcome

Hopefully this year you will have an enjoyable time in my classroom. Over the years I have strived to extend the learning that takes place within the classroom to outside of the classroom thus my many different online experiences. Below, I will briefly explain the various items that I offer online. The best thing to do is just visit them and tinker with them as much as you like, you cannot break anything so just play with it as much as you want.

Parents

Parents there is a page that explains my classroom procedures and what you should expect when it comes to my class. Also, if you look carefully towards the top of the parents page you will see how you can sign up to get emails from me from time to time about upcoming tests, projects, etc in class.  These emails will be general in nature and they will contain no information about specific students, just information pertaining to the particular class.  Please be sure that you are careful and sign up for the correct email newsletter.

** Your child will generally have reading homework almost every night during the school week. You can check the calendar to make sure. They are expected to take notes on their readings. Every quiz is open note, yes you read that right every quiz in my class is open note**

When it comes to ProgressBook it is nice that you have access to your child's grades but understand updating of grades is not instantaneous. So, be patient when it comes to checking grades, generally at the end of each week there will be some new grades entered.  The school district solely runs ProgressBook so please do not email me questions about how to login or why it is down. In time if it has not already been done you will get the info on how to use ProgressBook from the district. Student grades are only posted at the ProgressBook site. No student grades will be posted at any of my sites mrgallagher.com or mrgallagher.us
